I’ve been a naughty, naughty boy

For I haven’t been doing my artwork.

Excuses this time? Its near the end of the semester! And I’m shooting for all A’s, baby. Which means that school gets the most priority, and I’m not going for art.

Escapism: Fucking BO2, Axis and Allies for Mac, and a splash of Breaking Bad, Neverwinter Nights, and Minecraft for Mac. When I get sick of studying, I like to disappear in another world for a little bit, and even more so on the weekends where I can get most of it out of my system so I can focus on school during the week. Unfortunately, that cuts into drawing time.

Plus no more drinking benders seeing as how my skull has recently taken to crippling migraines and blistering headaches everyday. I wonder if things like that can be inherited from ex’s. Or they cursed me. And I can’t drink due to the pain and alcohol is practically required to pray to my heathen gods, so…. EGAD that’s an effective curse!

I’ve also been seeing friends that I have neglected to be with these past years and do things that I haven’t done in forever (Exploring the Pine Barrens in my friend’s Jeep in the dead of night complete with thick, vision-robbing, zombie fog), and slowly trying to break out of my introverted habits of late.

So there are the usual cop outs for not having anything new or for finishing that fucking Borderlands 2 project. Jesus Christ.

I will say, I am a bit happy with all the traffic the site has been getting during this slow period and I feel I have to make a few major points of my goals on here.

First and foremost, this is a fun creative project for me.
I am not here to become a famous web artist or to strike it rich from the site. If either of that somehow happens, it will be used to further my tools (computer, programs, tablets, hosting, etc) to be used for the site, and that’s it. Quite frankly, my comics and art is mediocre at best. Yes, the jokes could actually make sense and the art looking superb and figures to scale, but that is a level of work and skill that I do not have time to polish upon.

I get ideas, I slap em down. The better of the population actually get drawn out in digital format. I mean, I actually have tons of pencil comics lying around, but either the art is gawdaful or the jokes are so terrible that no amount of pot or drugs will make them funny (although that did not stop them from being written in the first place) so they will most likely never be published. Perhaps I will touch them up and scan them in. That seems like a nice easy lazy way to post past work I hate xD

Why am I doing this?
Long ago there was a dream. I liked art and wanted to do webcomics.
It all started with terrible Sonic sprite comics that thankfully were never published and lost in old computers that died due to too much horrific porn and sneaky viruses.
Then, years later, was an idea for an actual web site and to strike it out big using great art and witty jokes.
Years even later, it kinda happened.
After that, a type of realization settled in: it was never going to be an actual career for me.

Listen, I enjoy art. Since I was a stumpy chubby toddler, I loved to draw and it was heavily encouraged. I had some form of natural talent. But throughout the years I came to some realizations about myself and my art.
– Whereas I liked to draw, I do not put in the amount of time drawing and studying art as I did when I was young.
– If I continued to rely on my current level of ability without furthering it, my art was never going to progress (that is why my drawings of feet and hands are still HORRENDOUS).
– When I went for school for art, I realized that what I wanted to do was not going to net me a fruitful career, the most likely scenario was years of struggling to be recognized, and when that failed I would most likely take a desk job to drag through life. I ignored this little idea for a while for obvious reasons.
– I did not take art that seriously.
– The field of web art and especially comics was full and I was currently out of ideas and subjects I could base my work upon for my it to stand alone in a sea of imitators (gaming, nerd, and “inside friends’ jokes” comics have been done to death. I arrived too late on the Pun Era to be effective).
– I was basically jumping on the bandwagon of web comics and famous web artists, to imitate them and try to steal some of their success. The other option was to be completely original with the exact likelihood of being completely ignored unless someone Stumbles upon a rare beautiful work of mine and in the EXTREME off chance that the Internet would gobble it up and repost it a bajillion times as some ripped off 4-chan meme (I credit them for really having the whole current meme and demotivational poster craze that we have today. I’m sure it goes further back than that, but its nice to know your horrible racist roots). I eventually opted for the latter.

SO. I’m basically doing this site because of some automated response that resides deep in my psyche that demands me to periodically draw. So, I must obey these commands, and this is the bin that collects those urges. Trying to force it out will result in an even greater decline of all around quality.
It would be incredibly arrogant, presumptuous, and assholey of me to expect to make a living off of second hand urges or to even fathom the notion of it competing against the heavy hitters of today’s digital art world.

But it makes me smile, and gives a small, fuzzy, stomach tossing feeling that I can kind of associate with love every time I look at this site, and to know that anybody (even if its a small number of people) can find even the briefest moments of amusement or even the slightest cracks of a smile out of what I do is what means the most to me.

So now I will stop stalling to study, and actually study.

BOOP.

Willpower is not an Ability Score in Call of Duty.

Because I have like, no Willpower whatsoever apparently.
So… yeah. I got Black Ops 2/MW4 and got to level 21 in something like 5-6 hours.

It is not… terrible. I mean, its neat having 5 Perks and two Attachments really early on in the game, but sometimes I feel as if it doesn’t truly affect how quickly I kill or how long I survive. Just meaningless additions to a formula that does not change.

What doooooo I like? Well, the hit detection for BO2 on the PS3 is basically on par with MW3. Sure they are buttloads of times where you empty a clip relatively spot on or at a person 6 feet away AND NOT A GODDAMN HIT REGISTERS BUT ALL OF HIS WILD FUCKING SHOTS ARE MARK ON YOUR BOBBING AND WEAVING SKULL.

But hey, that is every Call of Duty game in existence. So far, it does not seem as bad as the original BO.

Shotguns: I base how good a game is on how well they tailor Shotguns.
[Quick history lesson!

CoD4: Pump action had pretty good range and reliable killing power in one shot, the semi-auto was nothing to sneeze at either.

W@W: They were, yknow, there. Lotta big open maps so I did not find them as useful as say, oh I don’t know, the MP-40 for close range encounters.

MW2: Class setup changed so now you can have any Primary weapon AND a Shotgun. Some of which you can DUAL WIELD and were so good they had to nerf them out of any and all usefulness. More types of Shotguns, and pretty much all of them were boss.

BO: Ruined the Shotguns forever by nerfing the Range, Damage, and firing mechanics due to the MASSIVE butthurt that resounded from the previous game.

When you fire the Shotguns from and earlier game while Aiming Down the Sight (ADS), the pellet spread widens. Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, but if you Run ‘n Gun with a Shottie (cause camping with one makes even more sense >_>), you never need to ADS since it takes precious moments to line the aim up THEN fire (pump next shell in, THEN ready to ADS AGAIN if using pump action) instead of just hipfiring since the pellets pretty much make it (or it SHOULD) a One Hit Kill (OHK) at close range. Its a reaction based gun.

BO changed it so when you ADS with a Shotgun, the spread tightens instead, and basically made it so hipfiring was near fucking useless. Along with the Damage and Range reduction and spotty hit detection, absolutely no reason to use any of them (other than Spaz Silenced which got better cause THAT MAKES A LOT OF FUCKING SENSE).

MW3: Started off underpowered and useless (pump needed about 2 OR MORE CLOSE RANGE HITS TO KILL) at the release (except for Striker) but combining certain Attachments made em meh. Later they got a much needed buff and the Attachments balanced out, making all the Shotties bearable. Still a bit underpowered to fully compete with everything else, but it was not a complete disaster. Kept the BO mechanics where ADS tightens the spread. Whatever. Assholes.]

Now, BO2: Been playing with the first Shotgun, pump action, a lot and I have mixed reactions. Bear naked with minimal Perks, it performs relatively decent. Obviously now ADS gives more of an edge than hipfiring, but there are ways around that.
Long Barrel gives it more Range, which means better Damage drop off over distance, and as the first Attachment right off the bat, is a perfect choice!
The Laser Sight Attachment is basically the old Steady Aim from what I understand, and combined with Long Barrel makes a great combination for hipfiring!
Running with Dual Perk Tiers 1 and 3, you can get some pretty reliable kills in 1- several hits (I’ve killed two people with one shot, I’ve hit one target with 4 shots, and I’ve had some shots that completely do not register).
Definitely an improvement so far compared to the last couple games.

Went on a bit off there…

Maps! The maps are either really good or really bad! SURPRISE, right? Most maps have a larger feel to them, with plenty of alleyways or paths winding in and out of spawns, buildings, and open areas. Buildings you can enter in seem to be a bit more small in terms of room space but most have several stories. Lots of ways to flank the teams (which I enjoy) or places to set up traps or watch areas (annoying but efficient).

Still hate that aircraft carrier map. A fine example of what I hate most in this game and BO1 (MW series were not AS bad): Spawns.

When I spawn, I assume that within the first, lets sayyyyy 5, 5 seconds of my new life that I am NOT GOING TO BE RUSHED BY AN ENEMY. Or spawned right in front of someone camping up in a window.
Except that does happen, a lot in fact.

In CoD4 and W@W, a simple fact was drilled into my head: When enemies die, there is a really fucking good chance that their body will exploded with Martyrdom. DON’T RUN OVER OR NEAR CORPSES. Simple as that. Saves a lot of frustration and its a simple rule.

Same concept can be applied to BO 2: WHEN YOU SPAWN THERE WILL ALWAYS BE AN ENEMY NEAR YOU. You gotta be on guard from the moment you are able to pull that trigger. Really shakes up the whole team based play, seeing as how the enemies juggle your ‘mates around so they cannot hold down a position and contentiously switch the spawns so everyone is separated and easily picked off.

So, never think you are safe, even if you just respawned, there is always someone behind you, sunning to the side, or lying in wait in that hallway right there. Yep, the one directly in front of you. 20-30 foot radius of being spawned, there will always be an enemy. Bitter truths that are learned in life.

I’m sure more likes and gripes will arrive the more I play this game. Which I suppose was inevitable. Fuck.

Green Team Convention at the Harry Williams Building!

Oct12

Members of my community have formed a Green Team in hopes of cleaning up our town and promoting better usage of energy!

Today at 6:30 PM-9ish PM, they are hosting a Green Convention at our Harry Williams Building on Black Horse Pike, where members from a solar company can assess your house to see if you qualify for free solar panels added to your home!

In addition to this and other tables and projects, I was asked to create a scene out of The Lorax, with the idea behind the story/movie of looking out for your environment and being considerate to others.

So I took a corner of the building and made my own version, using items and supplies laying around such as pool noodles, and spare decorations to create a scene that would mimic the feel, and something that the little ones that will be there could enjoy for a little bit. And that’s what I did with my day off from work on Columbus Day xD
I myself and another will be dressed as ‘Friends of the Lorax’ which may or may not include me dressing up with glasses and fuzzy mustache that has me looking like Dr. Robotnik 😛

Well, here are some pictures of how my idea turned out! (Note: I forgot about the gap between the pictures and the floor, it was too late at that point to I try to mentally block it out….)

In the gym

And there you have it! It doesn’t look like much, but we worked hard for what will be seen for only 2 hours. Hopefully others in the town can enjoy it as well!
